Qatar Petroleum – Consolidated Contracting Company

Ras Laffan Industrial City (RLC), situated along the northeast coast of Qatar, is one of the fastest growing industrial cities in the world.

With the anticipated volumes of cargo set to increase dramatically, the new port development is the key to the delivery of these cargoes to various parts of the world. The new port will be a world class facility, constructed in phases to accommodate the developing industries that are expected to operate in the industrial city. This phase consists of the new LNG berths, liquid cargo berth, dry docks as well as repair yards.

The dredging, reclamation and breakwaters will form a part of a single contract that will enclose the area around the port and provide adequate land for utilities and services to be able to access berths that will be built inside the port.

The berths will be built on an incremental basis, with provision for at least the next 20 years. Provision has also been made for industries that are likely to be based in Ras Laffan.

Consultel was contracted by Qatar Petroleum (via CCC) to provide the detailed telecommunication design including design for the converged voice data network for the expanded Port.  The total expenditure for the telecommunication infrastructure exceeds USD 60 million.

Consultel designed a total IP solution for Qatar Petroleum owner of the Ras Laffan Port.  Our design included:

  • Over 300 kilometres of fibre optic cable
  • Comprehensive port wide converged network system to 120 buildings
  • Telemetry and radio systems
  • Interfaces for an extensive network of surveillance cameras
  • Transmission systems for security via the converged network
  • Fire and transmission systems
  • Public Address and General Alarm systems
    • Building Management System (BMS) interfaces

Consultel produced a comprehensive and tailored design tailored to the business needs of oil/gas ports.

Our design includes management systems as well as interface into the existing legacy systems.  The network represents one of the most advanced converged networks in the world and places the Ras Laffan Port at the forefront of Technology.
